The Ballets de San Juan (BSJ) was founded as a company and school with the purpose of developing both dance culture in Puerto Rico and Puerto Rican dance culture. Its principal objectives are: the preparation and training of Puerto Rican dancers, choreographers, composers and designers; and the development of the dance audience and dance appreciation by presenting an international repertory of classical, neoclassical and contemporary works.

BSJ presented its first performance in November of 1954 and has been active, without interruption ever since. International Figures from the dance scene have danced with the company including Rudolph Nureyev, Fernando Bujones, Margot Fontayn, Cynthia Gregory, Jorge Esquivel, and others. BSJ has presented several full-length classics throughout its history and presented fifteen works by George Balanchine, being one of the few Latin American Companies to receive permission to do so by the George Balanchine Trust.

The 50th Anniversary National Tour is homage to the former artistic director and founder Ana García, a dance pioneer in Puerto Rico, which includes a compilation of works by this daring dance artist from the 1950’s to the present. It also presents three original dance works by Puerto Rican choreographers and musicians based on the lives of Puerto Rican women: Julia de Burgos, Sylvia Rexach and Nilita Vientós Gastón.

The Grand Opening will count with invited guests: Dr. Leonor Osorio Granados, Venezuelan Consul General in New York, and Rodrigo Chaves, National Coordinator of the Bolivarian Circles.

The Puerto Rican Cultural Center (PRCC) is a non-profit organization founded in 1973 by community activists to meet the cultural, educational, and social needs of the Chicago's Puerto Rican/Latino community. The PRCC serves as an umbrella organization to the following five educational, social and cultural projects: Family Learning Center, providing literacy programs; Consuelo Lee Corretjer Childcare Center, a childcare program; Vida/SIDA, providing HIV and AIDS education and prevention programs; La Casita de Don Pedro, providing a community garden and cultural space; and Café Batey Urbano providing a cultural space for the youth. Also, PRCC is the parent organization and provides a space to the Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos High School.

PRCC will celebrate the above programmatic accomplishments, as well as the three decades of work and commitment to community building by showcasing its newly rehabbed two million Dollar facilities. The new Puerto Rican Cultural Center is located in the heart of the dynamic Puerto Rican community know as Paseo Boricua. The new PRCC facilities serve as an addition to the growth and development of the Humboldt Park community and add a new dimension to the evolution of the Puerto Rican corridor along Division Street between Western and Kedzie.
