Last Monday and Tuesday April 16 and 17, 2018 Richard Santiago, the artist-in-residence at the Puerto Rican Cultural Center, participated in Pa’Lante Conference at University of Illinois at Chicago with a conference and an art workshop. Monday morning at Café con Richard Santiago he discussed the importance of his work, and explained the basics of painting to the students attending the event. Next day, Richard led a hands-on art workshop to create a collaborative piece focusing on environmental issues in Puerto Rico.

The collective work he led on Tuesday with the students produced a $2k at Friday’s auction which was held during the symposium entitled Puerto Rico, Hurricane María, and The Crisis of Colonialism at University of Illinois at Chicago. The proceeds will go toward the relief efforts for School of Visual Arts and Design of Puerto Rico (Escuela de Artes Plásticas y Diseño de Puerto Rico) .
